new life

I am talking about recycling and repurposing.

J and I have been doing a lot better with our recycling project and I just have to brag on him for a minute. Over the weekend he collected so many plastic, aluminum and glass bottles that he completely filled up the bed of his truck.

We’ll be taking these bags to the recycling center later this week in exchange for cash. The state of Hawaii places a five cent redeemable deposit on every beverage container, so why not get the money back when otherwise they would have just been thrown away. recycling + money = awesome in my book.

also, in efforts to stop buying so many prepared foods, i’ve been making my own salad dressings. (actually, i’ve done this for a while…i’ve always thought buying salad dressing was kind of a waste of money when they’re so easy to make on your own). and well, since i’m cheap, i don’t own any sort of container/dispenser for dressings(a veggie peeler, another kitchen utensil i don’t own because i’m extremely cheap!) so i’ve always made just enough dressing for an individual use. So, i waited till my grape seed oil bottle was empty and repurposed it for a salad dressing container. I’m going to make a pretty label for it eventually, but i’ve already put it to use! I made a citrus poppyseed dressing, yum!

1/4 cup ACV

1/3 cup EVOO

1/4 cup(or less!) of honey

1 1/2 tbl mustard

1 1/2 tbl poppyseeds

and then i just eye -balled it/tasted it with the fresh orange juice and lemon juice( i like a lot!)

and ta-da!

it went straight on to my spinach salad, and i must say…quite delicious!

bless up.
